Non-Destructive Testing for Petrochemical Industry
Mar 27, 2017 - Mar 29, 2017
Event Navigation

This 3-day courses will overview NDT methods and techniques used in the petrochemical industry. Day 1 and 2 of the course will include lecture, technology demonstrations, and hands on experience with NDT methods. Day 3 will provide in-depth guidance for NDT method selection using real world case examples for a given combination of component (pressure vessel, pipe or tank), damage mechanism and materials of construction.
Key Takeaways from Attending This Workshop:
- Understand the fundamental physics of NDT methods
- Master the scope, advantages and limitations of NDT methods and techniques
- Execute practical application of NDT methods for common damage mechanisms (API RP-571)
- Learn how to select the right NDT technique
- Assess and assure NDT technician competencies
- Recognise NDT technologies and adopt the right technologies
This course is beneficial to the following petrochemical integrity management roles:
- Plant Inspectors
- Facilities Engineers
- Inspection Department Management
- Materials Engineers
- Risk Based Inspection Engineers
- Fitness for Service Engineers
- Process Engineers
- Integrity Management Specialists
Masterclass Trainer is a recently retired Non-Destructive Testing and Inspection Subject Matter Expert from BP America. He has 37 years of NDE experience in the Petrochemical and Aerospace industries. His primary roles included operating a Non-Destructive Testing applications laboratory for the Amoco and BP oil companies for NDE application development, research and development, new technology validations and NDE procedure development. He is an ASNT Level III and has held NBIC, API-510, API-570 and CWI certifications. He is also an advanced NDE instructor and independent NDT consultant operating out of the San Jacinto College Central Campus.
He is a current a member of the API Subcommittee for Inspection and serves as the Vice-Chairman of the API NDT Task Force, Master Editor of the RP 586 committee, Chairman of the and API-587 document committee and the API QUTE Technician Qualification Exam Program Administrator. He also serves as the NDT Education Chairman for the ASNT Houston Section.
He has worked in United States (home), Canada, Trinidad, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, United Kingdom, Scotland, Netherlands, Germany, Indonesia, China, Taiwan and Malaysia.

An understanding of Non-destructive testing technologies is an integral part of any petrochemical integrity management program for safe operation, code compliance and license to operate process equipment. The proper selection and use of NDT methods and techniques is dependent upon a working knowledge of the fundamental physics, advantages and limitations and technician factors within each NDT discipline.
