He established Branscombe Marine Consultants Ltd in April 2007 undertakes consultancy and project work\, and a variety of surveys. He has also written a number of expert opinions and has recently acted as expert witness on major marine cases such as Hebei Spirit in South Korea and the collision between the bulk carrier Yao Hai and Neftegaz-67 in Hong Kong.\n\nCaptain Alan is highly sought after in the area of maritime incident and accident investigation. He was an Assessor on various Marine Courts of Enquiry and Boards of Investigation since 1990\, including 'Apollo Jet' - the report from which led to a major revision of the rules for high speed craft in Hong Kong. He was also a member of several Boards of Discipline set up to investigate accidents to vessels with a pilot embarked.\n\nHe was also the member of the Pilotage Advisory Committee and PAC Working Group (1995 - 2007). During this period\, Captain Alan sat on a number of pilotage enquiries and Boards of Discipline looking into the conduct of pilots during incidents and accidents.
